Morita Rifle - Starship Troopers

Morita Rifle - Starship Troopers

The Morita Rifle from Starship Troopers is an icon of its time, featuring to weapons in one: a relatively conventional assault rifle and an under-slug shotgun for close-range combat. The Morita holds 160 7.62mm rounds and 12 8-gauge shotgun shells. Although relatively ineffective against the hardy Arachnids, the Morita felt so at home in the Star Troopers universe that it captured our imaginations as a cool sci-fi weapon.

Proton Pack - Ghostbusters

Proton Pack - Ghostbusters

The Ghostbuster's Proton Pack is a back-pack carried portal nuclear accelerator used to pin down and capture ghosts. It fires a steam of protons which attract the ghost's negatively charged energy and keep it from running away. What's cool about the Proton Pack is the way its beam undulates wildly and the rather destructive affect of the beam on physical objects. Crossing two proton streams was strictly discouraged in the movie, until doing so was necessary to seal the Gozer in his portal.

Plasma Cannon - Predator

Plasma Cannon - Predator

The iconic Predator shoulder-mounted Plasma Cannon is a cool science fiction weapon due to its powerful blast, capable of ripping a man in two, and its 3-dot targeting system, which foreshadows the victim's imminent demise. The cannon automatically tracks the Predator's helmet-mounted laser sight and fires a large, single blast of plasma that causes explosive damage on contact, showering the area with molten shrapnel.

BFG - Doom

BFG - Doom

The BFG was best depicted in the Doom film, but originally hails from the classic Doom video game, where the name simple stood for "Big Fucking Gun." The BFG is the unashamed epitome of badassness, fulfilling the ultimate testosterone fantasy of blowing the shit out your enemies in a single blast of blue/green plasma. The BFG has no apparent magazine.

Cobra Assault Cannon - Robocop

Cobra Assault Cannon - Robocop

The Cobra Assault Cannon from the original Robocop is as badass as realistic-looking, single-shot rifles gets. Based on the Barrett M82A1 sniper rifle, the Cobra has a slow rate of fire, but each shot packs an explosive round with an impact equivalent to the destruction caused by a grenade launcher. The Cobra is an anti-armor, anti-vehicle rifle used by Clarence to track down and destroy Robocop.

Arquallian Arm Cannon - Men in Black

Arquallian Arm Cannon - Men in Black

Men in Black features several cool weapons, but the triple barrel Arquallian Arm Cannon is the one you need when confronted with a over-sized bug. It fires a big blast of plasma and sure looks deadly, but little else is known about this gun.

Jawa Ion Blaster - Starwars

Jawa Ion Blaster - Starwars

The Jawa Ion Blaster was used in Episode IV: A New Hope by the Jawa of Tatooine to stun and capture R2-D2. An Ionization Blaster fires a burst of charged particles instead or a laser bolt. This ion charge is especially effective against mechanical opponents, and commonly used by the scavenging Jawa to disable droids. The old-school look of the Jawa Ion Blaster along with it electrifying special effects are what make it so cool.

Shuriken and SmartDisc - Alien vs Predator and Predat...

Shuriken and SmartDisc - Alien vs Predator and Predator 2

The Shuriken is a variation on the unique Predator 2 SmartDisc design, which is essentially a high-tech, alien boomerang. The original smartdisc featured a fast, spinning buzz-saw that would slice through bone and steel. The 6-clawed Shuriken is equally deadly, used in AvP to slice through facehuggers and penetrate the alien Queen's armor. Who wouldn't want this deadly high-tech boomerang handy when facing alien?

Han Solo's Blaster - Starwars

Han Solo's Blaster - Starwars

Han Solo's blaster from the original Star Wars trilogy is a classic every kid growing up in the 80's dreamed of wielding. If the DL-44 blaster looks "classic", that's because it is. The design is based on a German Mauser C96 circa WWI. In any other science fiction film the weapon might look hokey, but a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, it just works. The DL-44 is a sturdy medium-range pistol, firing a heavy laser bolt, with up to 25 shot capacity.

Police Gun - Fifth Element

Police Gun - Fifth Element

The pudgy, hobbling police of NY city circa 2263 wear funny-looking suits and wield odd-looking blasters, at least that's what Fifth Element would have us believe. The Police Gun from Fifth Element was only given a few frames of screen time, but its unconventional design warrants a spot on this list.
